Why did Prescott Bush help the nazis ?

Why did 3 straight republican presidents, Harding, Coolidge and Hoover (march 1921- march 1932) whose policy views eerily were very similar to the current republican president ( especially the parts about deregulation, cutting taxes for the wealthy and being extremely pro big business) drive the nation towards the abyss called the Great depression?
