My husband was single for 22 years; I was single for 10 years. We dated for 2 years. We had our whole family in for Christmas 5 years ago, and I had worked and worked getting everything ready. I got bronchitis and couldn't stay awake more than 20 minutes or so. After that, in a phone conversation with her dad, she wouldn't have anything to do with us, and told her dad that I wouldn't talk to her and wasn't a good hostess.
